Holy Week Pastoral Letter

Dear Saints in Christ,

I will try to keep this as brief as possible, as I know you have been reading a lot lately! This is incredibly painful to even write, but we will not have any Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, or Easter Sunday private services.

As Christians, we all want to worship. It’s what Christians do best. This Sunday will certainly be an emotional day. Faith would drive even those that should not assemble to assemble. I praise God for your faithfulness, and your eagerness to receive Jesus in both Word and Sacrament. But I refuse to put myself in a situation where I have to say “no” to anybody who desires worship because Easter Sunday was “full” according to social distancing guidelines. It is also not fair to celebrate Easter on Easter without everyone being able to gather safely.

Remember, receiving the Sacrament is never an emergency. As we are kindly asking all of Zion’s members to “worship at home” right now, out of love for your neighbor, and for the sake of unity, please consider worshiping at home “with everybody else.” Let’s all watch the services together in our own homes. To put it frankly, I’m asking everyone to “be a team player” this weekend! We are all in this together. This whole thing stinks. A lot! I never thought in my worst nightmares that I’d be asking you, my beloved sheep, not to come to Church on the day we commemorate Jesus’ death or on the day we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord! I sincerely hope you all know that!

With that said, even though we will not assemble at all during Holy Week or on Easter Sunday, there will be a plan forthcoming for how we will offer Easter celebrations over the coming weeks, spacing things out according to social distancing guidelines, and also out of pastoral concern regarding the prolonged absence from God’s gifts! This plan should be finalized hopefully by Saturday. Please continue to be patient!

Every letter I have written so far has grieved me. This one hurts the most. I miss seeing you all face to face! May the peace of the Lord be with us always!

      In Christ,        Pastor Hromowyk
